Nimitz sailor arrested during Sasebo port visit 2008/02/14

"Nimitz" crew of the nuclear aircraft carrier of the U.S. Navy was arrested due to the theft.


The crew of nuclear aircraft carrier "Nimitz" of American naval forces that entered Sasebo City

in Nagasaki was arrested by the police on suspicion of stealing one windbreaker on the 13th on

February 11, 2008.

Seaman Jonathan Richard Siegfried, 21, allegedly stole a black windbreaker, priced at about

8,000 yen (about $78), from a sporting goods store in Motoshima-cho around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday,

according to the spokesman.

Siegfried admitted stealing the windbreaker after he was asked to come to the police station

for voluntary questioning, the spokesman said. Siegfried remained in police custody as of

Thursday, the spokesman said.
