@RENEDU2 Not sure if I agree. Whenever you have something that someone else wants, and you lack the power to defend it, chances are that they will try to get it by force.

The Helenistic culture was through conquest of Alexander the Great, Roman culture did civilize barbarians through conquest. It was a sort of survival of the fittest ideas.
It was also typical for the great empires like Macedonian, Roman, Byzantine to embrace the idea of tolerance, and like the later two to stop expansion and protect peace.
It is also not a coincidence that after falling into idleness they decayed and fallen. Conquer or be conquered.
