It is taken from the Florian Fricke's movie Sei Still, Wisse ICH BIN. It was inspired by the bible, filmed in the Sinai desert. The movie had been released only in the 90's and now it is out of print again. The soundtrack, produced by Klaus Schulze, is available on CD. The part of the messiah was played by a girl, Vera Von Lehndorf.
This song has also been used in the soundtrack of Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo.

Hi diangle - you mention Vera Lehndorff played the Messiah. That figures, but I wonder if you know the connection? Lehndorff's professional name is Veruschka - the model in Antonioni's film 'Blow-up'. Veruschka went on to make a book with her creative partner, photographer Holger Trülzsch, called 'Trans-figurations', and Trülsch was also a member of - you guessed it - Popol Vuh! I've been listening to their music for some 30 years - thanks for posting the clips! Much enjoyed.
