how the nation is organized and how officials go about being put into office are two different things. Were a republic yes, with 50 separate states represented under one government. But we're also a representative democracy, describing how officials from those states get put into office (via democratic voting) to represent us

a republic is a representative democracy, we have a senate and a house of reps who are directly voted via popular vote. I agree with you when it comes to presidential elections though

well the fact is, wether someone is old or young, if they want to vote they should know basic civics. Stossel was right to go after the whole "Vote or Die" crowd because telling people to vote, even if they don't know what the fuck is going on is how you get idiots like Obama in office.
