sounds like a school orchestra, and that guitar tone.... pah.
-
Axelrod wrote some sweet ass music but he is a COLOSSAL asshole.

What's missing is The Wrecking Crew (some of the best sessions musicians in history) generally and drummer Earl Palmer in particular. Palmer gave those original records their funk.
I saw Donovan a few years back and it was the same thing. He was missing those crack session musicians like Jimmy Page and John Bonham. It sounded like a band he found in a local cafe and asked them to tag along.
Session men are the true unsung heroes of rock.

Wanna know why this band sounds so cheap and uninspired (no funk, no soul..)??? The difference between then and now is cannabis, LSD, and shrooms.
-
the orchestra is total pants, what a letdown ! i'm glad i wasn't there.
-
the person who recorded this should be thrown into the sea. its an affront to the greatness of axelrod's original recordings.
-
Richard Ashcroft..good choice..
-
never send english musicians to do american work... the fuck is that all about?
-

Maybe not as good as the original but i guess you can't win all right?
david axelrod is amazing but this live band sounds incredibly cheap in comparison w/ the original recordings

It's called Holy Are You and the guy singing it is Richard Ashcroft from The Verve. Brilliant.
