gai saber - occitania que t'en vas - from the album "la fabrica occitana" (2006) - On the 17th March 2007 Beziers, in Southern France, was the seat of the biggest meeting of Occitan people coming from France, Italy and Spain. 20.000 people walked through the city under the slogan ANEM ÒC, PER LA LENGA OCCITANA (let's go for the Occitan language) to ask the French Institution for the possibility to teach the Occitan language in the public school. Thanks to the law 482 dated 1999 "Rules about protection of the historical linguistic minorities" the Italian State recognized the Occitan language and consequently teaching of the language and the cultural traditions in the schools were allowed. Till today the French State has not recognized the Occitan linguistic minority yet and teaching in public school is not foreseen.
