Thanksgiving, and other holidays including Christmas, Easter and Passover, are busy times for cardiologists and emergency rooms. High levels of salt in the large meals that people eat for those holidays can lead to a form of heart failure. Marc Klapholz, M.D., cardiologist at UMDNJ-University Hospital and New Jersey Medical School, and Lauren Kolesa, R.D., clinical instructor at the Institute for Nutrition Interventions at the UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions and coordinator of UMDNJ's Worksite Wellness program, discuss the medical consequences of too much salt and how to prepare healthier holiday meals.
