@Theseus17: The very fact that this show made Kouji look like some sidekick was enough to irk off many Japanese fans of the original Mazinger Z
-
@Theseus17: Well, the thing is, Duke Fleed is kind of a goody-two-shoes hero, while Kouji and co. are much more interesting characters. Kouji is a no-nonsense idiot that's a great hero despite his pigheadedness, the dynamic between Kouji and Sayaka is much more entertaining than the one between Duke and Hikaru, and the Mazinger series also have Boss, best comic relief ever.

So THIS is where the famed final Dynamic special came from! SWEET!

@Theseus17 France isn't Japan.

You're right ! Grendizer forever !

Same in France, as far as I know... Grendizer was the 1st anime big robot show broadcasted on TV. And Mazinger Z came later with much, much less success. And about Grendizer I learned recently that globally Japanese fans did not appreciate the fact that Koji aka Alcor is almost a hot headed moron / dumb in the Grendizer series, whereas the noble Duke Fleed aka Actarus takes all the glory ! ^^

@Theseus17 Also in Italy Grendizer (aka Goldrake) is very popular, but there is a reason:
in my country he was the first super robot aired on TV, and the Mazingers come later and not in chronological order and not with the same names (i.e. Koji Kabuto was renamed Ryo in Mazinger Z and Alcor in Grendizer allowing people to think they were different characters).
I second that.
Actually I never understand why Grendizer is less popular than Mazinger&Co in Japan ...
I mean, Duke Fleed is DA MAN, Grendizer is made from ALIEN technology, possesses best design&attacks ever...
In France, Grendizer (aka Goldorak) is VERY famous and popular, many thirties people feel nostalgic for ! This is a REAL&STRONG MYTH ! The "goldorak vocabulary" is famous, such as : Transfert!Autolargue! Corno-fulgur!Astero-Hache!Fulguro-poing!And many others! XD
