@gp4nut That's why I compose on the little Neo. ZERO online distractions.
-
and talk about distractions. i'm on youtube now when i should be writing! internet is the bane of my life! :D
-
@GetDicey wow thanks for the quick response! i thought you americans would still be in bed! btw i like the way you say "something like that" :)
i must get me one of these, i write a lot of content to sell but i am also starting to do short stories and maybe a novel one day. will check your free book out. thanks for the review :)

@gp4nut The text flows into the PC faster than you can type it, like maybe 300 words a minute. I haven't timed it precisely.
-
Out of interest, how fast does the text type out when you connect it to a PC and open Word/Notepad etc.
-
For all you haters, I think you don't realise what original word processors were like. Smaller display. Heck people used to use typewriters before that!
-
The screen is much too small. I'm sorry to say that i suffer from an affliction that many writers have that can actually be VERY beneficial when checked: I like to reread what i've written - for flow, for rhythm.
I understand that this is only to get the ideas out and distraction free, but it'd be nice to be able to read an entire paragraph.

How are you going to edit when you can only see 4 short lines? And the contrast is poor. You'll strain your eyes looking at the crummy screen. Plus you have to keep your neck bent to see it, so you'll get a sore neck.
And how are you going to share your writing with the rest of the world? It only has a usb port, so have to buy a computer anyway.
If you don't want to be distracted, buy a nice, used notebook computer and pull out the wireless card.

@Sarandib22 I've had the batteries die and not lost my files, but I suppose it's possible. It sounds like the Neo isn't for you and you want a laptop. I personally did not want a laptop with all the distractions and power issues. I change the batteries on the Neo about once a year, 10 months at most. Plus it turns on instantly, which is great when I have a sudden idea and need to write it down quick.

I really seriously considered getting one of these. I love the simplicity and lack of distractions. The cons which turned me off were no built-in thesaurus and the tiny screen. And the cost. Why would I buy the Neo or Dana for $250-300 when I could get a 7-10" refurbished laptop for $200 that will also allow me to jump on the web to check my favorite thesaurus or do research or listen to mood music while I write? Plus I read you'll loose your files if the batteries die completely! :O
due to your advice I decided to buy an Alpha Smart Neo and here is my review(it's very positive) I recommend to all you people who want to type when/where you want.

@reiss1100 Yeah, I made a mistake on the batteries. It is 3 instead of 4.

Can you import text, I have allot of half written ideas on word documents, can I import them so I can expand them?
mellerbeck 1 year ago
@mellerbeck I'm glad it was helpful. I did this video because I figured it would be something a few people might like to know and that there was not many other reviews about the product.
