After dyno'ing Jezebel last weekend and getting a disappointing power figure, I've finally done something about changing the muffler. Jezebel's always had VERY good 1 5/8" ID 4 into 1 merge system, but because of noise limits at one track in particular, I'd gone from having a 2.5" ID "Phat Boy" muffler on it to instead using a quieter 2" ID hideaway muffler. I've always felt it was a bit restrictive, but seeing how my power curve sort of flattened out at 4000rpm... well let's just say the time had come.
So the solution for now is this - my home spun modification to the phat boy to add a 2.5" 90 degree bend onto the outlet, finishing in a 1.75" ID gun-silencer style tip.
Only testing so far has been for a fang round the block, but even with just that can already tell its better for power. Sounds fine I think when on the power or with steady revs, but it's given the engine that traditional Volkswagen "plinking" sound on idle and overrun... so the jury's still out on that part...
have you some pictures of the build ?

@Wooddy87 Umm, possibly - I have tons of pictures for both the original build of the car and also the engine rebuild end of last year, but haven't bothered to put them up online.
There is a pretty detailed build thread on my recent EFI conversion tho up on the aussieveedubbers forum... just search for Jezebel EFI and you'll find it (youtube doesn't want to let me post a link)

@santiagocm86 The "plinking" sound comes from the baffle in the extra gunsilencer tip... it really is just a larger version of the standard VW gun silencer.
I've since taken that part out (not needed to get under the noise levels) and the "plinking" sound has gone...
