Dell will use the cheapest fans they can. They might not be bad fans, but cheaper fans= louder. You can get like 5 high airflow fans that pull like 10x more air and make the same amount of noise as your old fan...
However, those fans will run at $15-20+ each. Scythe S-Flex fans are a perfect example. Use fluid filled bearing which are almost inaudible.
So you can still overclock with silence. Its harder/more costly but you can.

the reason for your dell was so loud, was probably because the cpu fan was on full all the time, stock coolers are really bad....

Hmm. My OC was not stable. My comp crashed w/e it was under load and my temps were running in the upper 60's to lower 70's degrees Celsius. I am using the same motherboard and processor. I ended getting it stable for now at 3.4ghz. Still not sure why it it wasn't stable at 3.8. My CPU liquid cooling should be more than sufficient to keep the temps down.

I like how in two years, this entire box is basically junk more or less.

I have a question...
I have a i7 920 D0 steeping myself... I have a 4.2 Overclock when at Full Load under Prime 95 or Everest CPU stress test...
BUT... when i turn off prime 95 and the Everest Stress test the CPU than goes back down to 2.4 ghz... it's like the cpu only overclocks itself when the speed is needed...
but i was wondering if i can get my cpu to run at 4.2...24/7 without the speed going down when i am not using a Full Load...???
i hope that you understand what i'm trying to say.?

I have a Asus P6T mobo with 6 Corsair TRX3X6G1600C8 ram sticks. Its only reading 8 out of 12 gb. called Asus and they said its because of the cpu. tried turning the ram down to 1333 mhz and 1066 mhz and still only reads 8gb. anyone have any ideas?
Well there are some good points still in x58 as far as being able to fine tune your Overclock .. There's alot more settings that come into play as compared to Sandy Bridge witch is a completely different way of doing things .. But I do see your point , Heck with Ivy Bridge being out in the 1st quarter of 2012 and Sandy Bridge E LGA 2011 my P67 is getting replaced and it's not even a year old.. But yes 1366 is on it's last horrah.

Have you run Memtest86 4.10 ? It could be a couple of bad Ram Modules..
