This discussion examines the current state of the religion beat. What is the quality of coverage? How could religion, faith, and belief be covered better? Religion sections are disappearing from newspapers but flourishing online. What is the impact of new media on religion coverage?
I know this for a fact, because I grew up in an extremely conservative Southern family, and this is the type of conversations they had. Friends of my family would come over and express nearly identical ideas. It all goes back to proselytizing, making converts, and eliminating minority faiths. What they don't realize is that even though people grew up with prayer in public schools, they still became atheists and remained Jews, so their plan will still fail.

Religion belongs in the home, in the Church, Temple, Mosque, or other religious building, not public schools. The majority of people in favor of lead prayer in public schools are Biblical literalist protestants who have the ulterior motive of making converts. "If they would let Jesus back in the schools we wouldn't have near as many damn atheists and Jews running around" is a common sentiment of these people that is usually expressed only in private.
