  • african talking drum 2

  • @TamboresDeJaykub and the African talking drum

  • not the only, timpani does too

  • Hi

Yes the instrument is similar to the talking drum. Am not very sure is the talking drum has a snare stretched across the head. Thanks for sharing the info on the edakka in Tamil literature. Cheers

  • Sri. Subramanian is for sure amazingly talented and can feel the hard work. Hope he gets great chances and be well known.

    Spread the Edakka feel!

  • Idakka is a dravidian instrument used solely for worship of gods and godesses. But not used by tyagaraja or swati thirunal .

  • What does 'Perungodar' mean idakka is a very ancient percussion instument , frequently mentioned in ancient Tamil classical literatures, but gone into oblivion in Tamilnadu. It is quite heartening to see that Kerala still nurtures many of the ancient Tamil cultures. In Chola period inscriptions we find Idakakka is played as an accompaniment to Thevaram singing in Siva Temples. Thanks rajeshachuth. Muthukumaraswamy

  • Thanks so much!

  • The introduction means 'Subramanyan Perungodar (name) will demonstrate the musical instrument'

  • Can someone translate the introduction from Malayalam to English? Thanks!
