The USDA reports that 96 billion pounds of food is wasted in this country every year, while more than 35 million Americans dont get enough to eat. Society of St. Andrew's Gleaning Network uses volunteers to glean nutritious produce from farmers' fields and orchards after the harvest. This food instead of being left behind is delivered to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Plenty more cabbage could have been picked, but we only had so many hands! If youre interested in getting involved with SoSA visit their website http://www.endhunger.org/fl_glean.htm . Every extra helping hand provides healthier food to those who are hungry.
