Big Props out to brother Curtis, who came down with ulcerative colitis in January 2011 and had his colon removed just 1 month later. He is doing much better now, and is getting his 20 something life back in gear and is recovering nicely. And most importantly, he is getting ready to play some professional soccer again soon. Read his story at:
http://www.ihaveuc.com/update-1-month-after-colon-removal-surgery/
He goes into some detail about what it is like to get things back on track after such a massive surgery where your colon is taken out.

  • Hi all, I feel for you in your story.

I my self suffer from a chronic lazy colon, which in its self presents

    all it's own problems.

I'm heading in the direction of having it removed.

I'm trying to do some research to get others opions on the after wards.

Please any one who has had there large colon removed I would love you view points.

I hear so much fear from others, you know the horror stories about why not to do it.

Thou life is just a struggle an I'm always , uncomfortable.

  • @wenken100 hey there, thanks for your comment, and I would highly recommend that you go to my ihaveuc website and up towards the top there is a section called "Surveys" and one of the surveys you'll find after clicking on that link is with 26 people who have all had their colons removed. I suspect you will find all kinds of information there that will help you out with your deicsion making process. Good luck to you! -Adam

  • I'm glad I found people that talk about uc. I was diagnosed in 1997 after I returned from Bosnia I was 27 yrs old. A doctor at Landstuhl (Germany) told me I'd never make it through another enlistment in the Army and I'd have surgurys later in life. He was wrong because I'm retiring from the Army in 7 months, with uc. I have been blessed; feels like the drugs have taken their toll though. I'll be making some changes soon cuz I have a wife and a 9 month old son now. Good luck everyone

  • @Mopargocar Good luck, and congrats on making it through the craziness in Bosnia back in the 90's. I think that if you can survive the hard times there, the UC is going to be easy for you to get under control as well. Feel free to drop by the iHaveUC site too, there's tons of stories over there

  • I have crohns diseas, and colitis! I'm only 17 and just had this surgery, my life has improved so much since then! Other then not knowing how to tell people I have it, lol. But great video! (:

  • @kellyxmichelle25 congrats to you!!! I'm sure it's hard to tell others, especially when you are 17 and trying to do all the normal 17 year old stuff! but you'll get the hang of it! have a great wekeend!!!!

  • @jlh945 i can tell you from experience that its not bad at all living with a bag. im back to doing everything that i had done before and no one even knows unless i tell them. if it was your only option to have a "temporary" bag, then im sure you'd be fine with it too. it was a life or death situation for me so living with the bag is a piece of cake.

    -Curtis
