Raja is 17 today. He was born here and will most likley die here. He paces alone. Today His birthday party was cancelled due to SNOW.
WHAT KIND OF PLACE IS THIS FOR AN ASIAN ELEPHANT?
The Zoo says 'St. Louis has a mild winter climate,'
ooo-k. This is a prison and Raja has a life sentence.

  • oh really, and you sound like a total idiot. do some research before you comment again. The Zoo is a prison with a life sentnce.

  • if you live that close to the Zoo, then you know that our winters qualify as BRUTALLY' COLD. certainly too cold for elephants. they must stay in their concrete cells during the frigid winter months. is that a life you would like?

  • The zoo is not a prison you sound like an animal rights nut. I think the zoo is fine if they take care of the animals where are they going to go a sanctuary where the poachers sneak in.

  • The zoo saying St. Louis has a mild winter is a big mistake. Yes, our winters are not brutally cold like Omaha, Chicago, or Minneapolis, but they are unquestionably cold and fairly snowy. I can't believe he's already 18! I remember back in 1992 when he was a baby. I was six years old. I live just over 2 miles from the zoo.

  • Raja definitely has one true friend in St. Louis & that's the woman visiting Raja on his freezing birthday. Please keep speaking up for these innocent, captive beings as they can only depend on us- many of whom are their perpetrators. This is NOT conservation & it's not right. Learn the scientific facts- elephants die much younger in captivity & their breeding programs are very expensive & very unsuccessful. Poor Raja...
