12-year old builds hydraulic arm

Bo Erik built his first hydraulic arm! This is an activity that a 12-year old can do independently, providing a parent gathers all the supplies necessary and oversees the project. This is a great way to learn about hydraulics and how fluid can drive the force of an object. Obviously, the basic idea behind the system is simple: force that is applied at one point is transmitted to another point using an incompressible fluid.

Obviously, he's using a kit. Recall, he's 12-years old. The point is more about encouraging his love of science without interfering and taking over the project. Many parents end up building the project then touting that their kid did it. I prefer to get him something easy he can do on his own, which encourages a natural discovery and appreciation for the subject. When he shows a stronger interest, he investigates and can build something on his own. He built his own hover board 3 months after...

@airs0ftbrasil hi airs0ftbrasil... thanks for your comment... :) I admit, I'm a little confused by it though, 'you don't build it, you just buy it"... this hydraulic arm is indeed from a "kit" which he had to build or put together, rather than simply buy and use... while it is not obviously as extensive as building a hydraulic arm from scratch, with his own schematics, it was still a wonderful learning opportunity for his age. Hope that clarifies...
