"The Jelly Caves" is a game created in 48h for the Ludum Dare 19 competition. This video was created taking automatic screenshots every 30 seconds for the whole weekend (except some sleep time) with Chronolapse.
Go play the game now! http://darkhogg.es/ld19/

The music used in this video is called "If You Don't Know What To Do Just Steal The Amen Break", from the album "Life Changing Moments Seem Minor in Pictures" by C418.
Go buy it (or at least download it!): http://c418.org/archives/577

  • 0:25 What program where you using to create sprites? It would really help if you told me, great video by the ways!

  • @qbblast Paint.NET, and thank you!

  • @Darkhogg Awesome, haha, for some reason watching timelapses of games being created makes motivation of creating your game even more exciting. By the way, are you going to be entering Ludum Dare 21?

  • @qbblast Well, I might start something, meybe it for the jam, but the 20th is my birthday, and I won't be able to do anything. Which is a shame, as the themes are being awesome this time, and I really want to do something...

  • @Darkhogg Thanks! :)

  • @GasmaskenKommandeur Oh well, then good luck with Java! Try those frameworks I told you (jMonkeyEngine and JGame) and search for Java games in Ludum Dare and see their code. My two games can do the trick, but they are a mess. Also search for "Breaking the Tower" from Notch, its code was my main inspiration. Looking at others' code is always good for learning.

  • @Darkhogg Well, Notch pretty much single handedly encouraged me to leanr Java. It's gonna be my first programming language and even though I've already found many who think Java doesnt suit game programming, I will try to learn it (and become a pro :D).

Its my "dream" to become a game developer after all! :)

  • @GasmaskenKommandeur Depends on your experience with programming in general, game programming and Java programming. For fast development there probably are more appropiate languages/tools.

If you already know other languages that may be suitable for game development, maybe you should go with it instead of Java. If you decide to do it with Java, try with JMonkey Engine or JGame.

  • Do you Java is an appropriate programming language for Luduma Dare? I mean, after all many people are using tools which lessen the need for actual coding experience.

I'm learning Java at the moment (got myself a 670 page book), and I definetely want to participate in Ludum Dare someday! :D
