(Jagger-Richards)

Released December 8, 1967 (UK) and December 9, 1967 (US) on THEIR SATANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST

Mick Jagger - lead vocals, backing vocals, percussion
Keith Richards - guitar, backing vocals
Brian Jones - keyboards, percussion
Bill Wyman - bass guitar
Charlie Watts - drums
Nicky Hopkins - piano

Strings arranged by John Paul Jones.

NOTE: Due to many sources, John Lennon and Paul McCartney do not perform backing vocals on this song. They were, however, present during the recording sessions, but only were recorded on a few of the songs, this not being one of them.

They were geniuses, they made many great works (and a lot of boring stuff, too!) but it doesn't mean that anybody else can't have a moment of inspiration. In my opinion, during the 60s there was "something in the air" ( ok, drugs helped a little but not completely) which inspired people to make very beautiful music.

It didn't happen again, there was excellent music in the 70s and more sophisticated but without that innocent, playful childish spirit of the years before.

Well just because Keith didn't like it does not mean I'm the only person who thinks it is underrated. And clearly other people think so if it's top comment.

Nah...It's one of their worst. This song is the highlight of it. Even Keef himself summed up this album in one sentence. "I have no memory of this album's making." That doesn't exactly spell "underrated" album in anyone's book but yours.

Wrong it was Brian's and tune, one of his last before he got lost in the world of acid and hashish. Still brilliant as was Brian, beautiful Brian could play any instrument. He is responsible for the sitar on Paint it Black...

One of the most underrated albums ever. So many gems on this album that withstood the test of time.

Jagger & Richard both tried to denigrate this album later, even agreeing to the Sgt Peppers rip off idea. Truth Is that Brain Jones wanted to go in this direction and the Stones decided to make a psychedelic album, afraid that their blues based stuff was going out of style. It's every bit as good as Sgt Peppers, but the Glimmer Twins didn't want to admit Jones was a genius.

A thorough understanding of both groups would help you understand that the Stones & the Beatles were two entirely different sounds & styles. All the talk of "competition" and "copying each other" was purely press-driven (still eaten up by fans today) & not fact. "Their Satanic Majesties Request" was the Stones, fully endorsed by The Beatles, making FUN of "Sgt. Peppers," nothing less, nothing more. The Beatles loved it like any two great friends who are at ease making fun of each other would be.

It was a time when a huge portion of humans belonged to the same culture - the psychedelic era. Its amazing what can be achieved when everyone comes together, it might only be music but its still affecting lives now, 50 years down the line. I wish i could go back in time and experience those days for myself, or better still, i wish those days would come back in this day and age, with all the technology we have now.

This is awesome! Love the album cover and this is a great song! So what if it's a Sgt. Pepper copy? It's still fricking amazing! :)

Ha Ha. It's true. John Lennon said that the Stones were copycats of the Beatles. Are you sure that isn't Sgt. Peppers on the cover? Not that they are the same.
