Fascinating interview with legendary director; Werner Herzog. Rescue Dawn, is based on the director's acclaimed 1997 documentary, Little Dieter Needs to Fly. The film recounts the true story of German-born Dieter Dengler, who dreamed of being a pilot and eventually made his way to the United States, where he joined the military during the Vietnam War era. Released in cinemas by Pathe in UK on 23rd November
@starmanskye Really? That was precisely the reason I enjoyed it. I appreciate that Herzog doesn't think we're all idiots... we don't need any reminder about the atrocity of the war.

I'm extremely disappointed in this movie. Herzog's focus on celebrating the triumph of Dieter's POW escape from VC captivity tends to obscure & ignore the far more vital issue of what a moral travesty and monstrous crime the war was. Herzog's deep compassionate humanity could have been MUCH better applied in developing a completely different perspective for exploring the triumph of human will & survival, ie. from a N. Vietnamese, Cambodian or Thai viewpoint that underscores our common humanity.

Nice little interview. Nice choice with Kermode.

Werner Always looks a bit pissed off. He said so himself in 'Herzog on Herzog' that he doesn't feel like smiling when a camera is aimed at him.

he does not look that happy - but he is one of the greatest directors on this planet
