"The Armenians did exterminate the entire Muslim population of Russian Armenia as Muslims were considered inferior to the Armenians by the prominent leaders of the Dashnaks."
--Mikael Kaprilian, Armenian revolutionary leader, in Yerevan, 1919.

......................................

Just a hundred years ago, the majority of the population in Erivan (known as Yerevan today) was Muslim.

Today, no Muslims live as citizens there. Nor are there any operating mosques. The one mosque surviving Armenian destruction was restored only in the 1990s and Armenia refuses to allow it to become an operating mosque.

Ottoman Turks, following the precedent set by the Arab Caliphs after the conquest of Palestine, Syria and Egypt, did not interfere with the religious and communal organisation of their non-Moslem subjects. Instead, they officially recognised the religious chiefs, whether Patriarchs or Grand Rabbis, as the heads of their respective communities or millets.

The first Ottoman Sultan, Osman Bey, allowed Armenians to organize as an officially recognized individual millet in Anatolia that was to be protected from Byzantine cruelty and the first Armenian religious center in Western Anatolia was founded in Kütahya. When the Ottomans conquered Bursa and made it their capital city, the Armenian religious center was transferred from Kütahya to Bursa.

Following the conquest of Istanbul, Sultan Mehmet in his firman of Fatih brought Armenian religious leader Hovakim to Istanbul in 1461 and founded the Armenian patriarchy in Istanbul. Sultan Mehmet declared the Armenian Patriarch both the religious and material leader of all Armenians living within the Ottoman Empire.

Ottoman administration assisted the Armenians when their financial power was insufficient to carry out their religious, cultural, educational and administrative affairs, met the deficits of the Patriarchy and provided financial assistance to Armenian institutions.

The tolerance shown by the Ottomans to Christians and Jews made the Ottoman Empire a refuge for those escaping religious persecution. Christians of one sect subjected to the cruelty of Christians of another sect and Jews subjected to the inquisition found a safe haven in the Ottoman Empire. For example, Jews migrated to the Ottoman Empire both after the occupation of Spain by the Catholics in late 15th century and in following centuries to escape Christian suppression in France, Middle Europe and Russia.

Taner Akçam, either a complete incompetent or the ever consumate liar, claims in the video that Ottomans destroyed Christian cultural heritage throughout history.

Far from destroying churches, the Ottomans welcomed and encouraged Christians in the empire to establish their own houses of worship and govern their own affairs.

  • The Greek gov. forbids the West Thrace Turks to have minarets which are longer than 7 meters.

just imagine what would happen if the Turkish gov. only allows church bells wich have a certain size.

say hello to european court of human rights...

  • Do you think Akcam works himself into a frenzy because that's the only way he can believe the garbage that spews out of his mouth?

His comment is so obscenely incorrect that it's no wonder the only jobs in the field of history he can find are those sponsored & paid for by Armenian genocide proponents. After all, they still promote the Andonian forgeries as "real evidence" of genocide claims since truth is just an inconvenient obstacle to ignore. Akcam is right up their ally.

  • DURING THE GENOCIDE TURKS DESTROYED HUNDREDS OF ARMENIANS CHURCHES OFCOARSE ARMENIANS WOULD DESTROY A FEW TURKISH MOSQUES IN ARMENIA AND EYE FOR AN EYE. BUT ARMENIANS PRESERVED AND PROTECTED A 17 CENTURY IRANIAN MOSQUES WHICH WAS RECENTLY RENOVATED IN YEREVAN.

  • @Igotangry Armenians lived in Van before the turks came to anatolia

  • @ZeeGooner even the belongings you showed as jews in your country are most probably from khazar era. khazar era never had been your native land till the russians located you to there at 1800's. you armenians are gypsie jews that migrated from syria to here. I think you should thank us , becuase we send you to your real historical land syria.

  • @eduard198807 I think even the jewish medival foundings they discovered in a suprise shock also could be from the times of khazars in those area what we are forced to called as armenia. even armenia land never belonged to them, armenians are gypsie jews that migrated syria to here, like kurds are mountain persians that dared to say they are native to here. both of them are not native to anatolia, ancient anatolians were always got migration from asia, these two are not natives of here, gypsies

  • @Dashnikian Van and other cities in anatolia armenians never had an population over %15, like greeks never had been majority of smyrna. they were like jews and non-muslims in salonica inhabiting the best seaport of city, but that's all. and in salonica jews were living at seaport also and it was not jews' houses that had been burnt in 1917 fire done by greeks, it was Turks and muslim people houses.Turks and other muslims homes were at the back of seaport unlikle jews and other non muslims

  • @TheGreatAtilla How come over one million armenians used to live in "turkey" arent there anymore? why isnt Akhtamar churched being used by people? why is it that Van had 50% population Armenia and nobody remain there?

  • Explain this, why are there more Armenian chruches in Turkey than in Armenia?

Also, why is it that Armenia is the most monoethnic country in the world?

Why is it that Erivan had over 50% of its population at the beginning of the 20th century Muslim and not one mosque remains in Armenia?
