"Operation Halyard" is the name given to the secret OSS mission that successfully rescued 512 U.S. Airmen from behind German-occupied lines in Yugoslavia's Serbia. General Draza Mihailovich, his faithful Chetniks, and the villagers rescued, hid, fed, clothed and guarded the Americans at the expense of their own lives. Lt. Col. John Cappello of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade took time out of his busy filming schedule to deliver a speech on Operation Halyard at the University of Pittsburgh on Monday, May 11, 2009. Cappello and his Belgrade film crew were in the states to interview Arthur Jibilian (Jibby) and George Vujnovich of the OSS and other rescued American airmen still alive.
