"Waco: The Rules Of Engagement is an incredibly powerful examination of the events that led up to the fire at the Davidian Branch compound that took the lives of seventy men, women and children. Through meticulous research and interviews with both survivors and government authorities, the film reveals how the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the FBI, and the Department of Justice waged an unjustified war against Koresh and his sect and intentionally misled the public about what happened.

The media turned the Branch Davidian sect into dangerous and subversive fanatics, but the survivors who testify in Waco reveal a different story. Through these testimonies and analyses from academics and government authorities, the film examines how sect members perceived this sudden persecution and how the FBI fumbled attempts to negotiate with them. I honestly just view it from an outside perspective. Some people were doing something some other people didn't like, and when they tried to stop them, the first group resisted with force, the second one responded in kind, and it got ugly. When you remove the the religion, the guns, the government, that's all you're left with: people fighting over something. This is neither bad or good in and of itself. What was bad was that people got killed. People getting killed is always a bad thing.

One major problem I'm seeing is people using this incident as an excuse to mouth off about their particular opinions about either the government ("They're jackbooted baby-killers!") or religion ("They're a bunch of poisoned Kool-Aid sipping loonies!"), citing what happened as evidence for whatever it is they believe and using it as a justification to spout their rhetoric and be jerks. Doesn't anyone just see it as a tragedy where everyone is equally to blame save those caught in the middle?
