Director Oliver Stone, and co-writers Mark Weisbrot and Tariq Ali discuss Stone's latest documentary, South of the Border, at the National Press Club on June 23, 2010. Stone, Weisbrot and Ali answer questions about the movie for the press after an introduction by Stone. The film is the product of Oliver Stone's 2009 road trip across five countries to explore the social and political movements taking place in those countries and the mis-perceptions most people have about Hugo Chavez and other leaders in South America, mostly due to a skewed portrayal by major US media.

  • What a fascinating press conference. I bookmarked it for later but couldn't stop watching. I don't care what the Righties say - Oliver Stone is a remarkable man whose intellect and vision is unmistakable in its clarity and honesty - no wonder they hate him.

  • @IceyPancho Actually, most Americans don't speak any foreign language and don't know much about the rest of the world. There's a radical, unlearned corner of redneck America that's very vocal on the web about issues they don't have a clue about. And what about their media? Fox news, yuk! The New York Times ? Jaded and dishonest...

The USA are a great, beautiful country plagued by violence, hatred, political extremism and teapartiers' instincts.

  • @NFLdude505 There's no such thing as free anything in a slave world.

  • there no such things as free health care, such a stupid thing to say.

  • LatinAmerica had been for centuries under the rule of the IMF. WB and control by American"s corporation using dictators or puppet governments. Today LatinAmerica learnt that they can develop their economy and improve their people social status by growing without the intervention of USA and they are getting there....Today Brasil,Argentina,Bolivia, Ecuador etc are developing their economy by selling their products to countries that are not intervening in their internal affair. Listen to Oliver!

  • thank you Oliver Stone, I couldn't be happier as a Bolivian seeing an american speaking this way, you truly saw our people's reality, and truly understand what is going on. I encourage all american people to go and see it by yourselves, don't shape your opinions up based on what the press says, there's no evil in South America or any other region, is just this urge of INDEPENDENCE, the stars and bars had taken over our countries, but not over our minds, NOR american minds!!
