The Toyama Ryu Kata was designed for the Japanese Military as a method of sword training so that they could draw swords and successfully use them without accidently cutting eath other up during training.
I have recently started learning Toyama Ryu at my dojo and I enjoy it a great deal

Is there a name for this set? Or is it simply roppon kumite?

that was an excellent show of toyama-ryu, thanks :D

It refers to the Toyama military academy where this style was developed, I believe.

what does Toyama mean in japanese?

It's the name of a city, and the name of the military school (Rikugun Toyama Gakko) where the sword style was created in the mid 1920's. The kanji is 戸山 meaning "Door Mountain."

How much you want to wager on that? I saw them do tameshigiri right after this. WHY would anyone want a Paul Chen Iaito in Japan?
