  • @toyama14 Those are family crests.

  • what does Toyama mean in japanese?

  • It's the name of a city, and the name of the military school (Rikugun Toyama Gakko) where the sword style was created in the mid 1920's. The kanji is 戸山 meaning "Door Mountain."

  • i guarantee they are not using shinken they are using iaitos made by Paul Chen

  • How much you want to wager on that? I saw them do tameshigiri right after this. WHY would anyone want a Paul Chen Iaito in Japan?

The Toyama Ryu Kata was designed for the Japanese Military as a method of sword training so that they could draw swords and successfully use them without accidently cutting eath other up during training.

I have recently started learning Toyama Ryu at my dojo and I enjoy it a great deal

  • Is there a name for this set? Or is it simply roppon kumite?

  • that was an excellent show of toyama-ryu, thanks :D

  • It refers to the Toyama military academy where this style was developed, I believe.

  • Great kiai :)
