"O, to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be,

Let that grace now like a fetter bind my wandering heart to thee."

    It gets me every time.

My favorite hymn too! My favorite lyric is "Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love, Here's my heart, O, take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above." It touches my heart every single time.

I have loved this hymn for 20 years and never before today saw this beautiful verse -- thank you very much

Today, I listened to this song. Immediately after, I called my mom to tell her I love her, I planted a tomato garden, helped an elderly woman with her groceries, gave a girl my sweater to keep warm, bought a homeless man a pair of shoes, donated to a "Save the Dolphins" charity, cooked dinner for all my friends, read 3 classic literature books, attended the opera, hugged my sister, ran a half marathon, cleaned my room, and called my teacher from high school to apologize for being mean to her.

I just wish that they would do the whole original song. This song is always revised when done, they always cut out the last verse which is probly the best one, "O that day when freed from sinning, I shall see Thy lovely face; Clothèd then in blood washed linen How I'll sing Thy sovereign grace; Come, my Lord, no longer tarry, Take my ransomed soul away; Send thine angels now to carry Me to realms of endless day."

...the thing many people don't understand is that you CAN have faith and still question. 'Faith' does not mean you cease questioning....it just means you've found some peace.

"Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then."

It's not just the song. I looked at the lyrics, kind of thought about them. I'll always be a christian, and I hope I never truly lose my faith but You know...some times you just need a kick up the bum.

Take care and Merry Christmas :)

As a strong christian that goes to a christian university, listen to what raymondedisonjr said. Your faith should not be based upon a song or an emotion.

I'm not religious, but I do have a belief in the divinity and power of this song and its lyrics. You don't have to be religious to feel its empowering spirit.
