Because it taints and ruins the unsmoked cigars. Have you ever smelled a partially smoked cigar after it has been left out for awhile? I love cigars but stale cigar smell is hideous.

you're more than half right here.. the humidor in providence is made to smoke in if needed. due to it's unique humidification system, it can withstand open doors and exhausting of air. It's not something that is recommended in any humidor, but in this case, no harm is done. So, bottom line DON'T smoke in your humidor unless it has the proper equipment. And even then, try not to.
