The sheet music for this song was published in 1894. The sheet music is therefore in the Public Domain (in the US, AND in France - ref Art. L. 123-12 of the French copyright law) and no copyrights may be claimed on this video except my own, for my own performance :)

The Liberty Bell march by John Philip Sousa, 1894.

Sheet music from the Library of Congress Performing Arts Encyclopedia: http://lcweb2.loc.gov/diglib/ihas/loc.natlib.sousa.200028167/default.html

The bell sound at the beginning comes from: bennstir: http://soundbible.com/1466-Doorbell.html

Thought I would enjoy the nice weather we're having here, and play some music in the park. Definitely good for the spirit, not so good for recording music :) Trying to play over the noise of the nearby freeway and the wind doesn't result in the best musical sound! But it was fun anyway :)

Instruments are from left to right:
Saxes: tenor1, tenor2, baritone, bass
Melodicas: cornet 1, cornet 2, cornet 3, bassoon 2, bassoon 1
Clarinets/Flutes: Clarinet 1, clarinet 2, clarinet 3, oboe 1, oboe 2

Some of you Monty Python fans may recognize this tune :)

For those of you wondering why I put so much "blah blah" about copyright in this video description: I saw that Music Publishing Rights Collecting Society had claimed copyrights of this video, which I disputed.

  • Well done, I like this tune a lot, not just because of Monty Python, but because my late uncle had a tape of John Philip Souza's which we used to listen to on long car journeys when I was a kid. One day I'd like to attempt it on guitar, but I'm not quite ready yet...

Have you heard Muriel Anderson's version?

  • @finlarg Thanks for pointing me towards the Muriel Anderson version. I hadn't seen it before. It's great!

  • double thumbs up back. :D

  • @dinomad12 Haha thanks :)

  • I always enjoy your videos Carmen :) And haha that one melodica at the end! Getting quite windy!

  • @Darkmooncaverns19 Hahah yeah at least the sheet music decided to flee at the end of the song and not in the middle :) Thanks :)

  • @carmen75013 No worries, Muriel Anderson is one of the best guitar pickers around. Another great performance of hers was on Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour episode 297. Not sure if it's on Youtube... She did a piece in the style of Old Crow Medicine show.

  • BRAVA!!

  • Next time, put out a hat. You may make a few Euros. :)
