http://www.ted.com Imagine playing a video game controlled by your mind. Now imagine that game also teaches you about your own patterns of stress, relaxation and focus. At TEDxToronto Ariel Garten shows how looking at our own brain activity gives new meaning to the ancient dictum "know thyself."

TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate

  • "normally I would have no way of knowing how relaxed or focused I am in any tangible way"

So how do we know what focus or relaxation is?

To focus on brain activity removes the importance of every time one has relaxed, and been focused, and known what that meant.

We had to do activities which required focus, or were relaxing and TALK to eachother about them to learn what focus and relaxation were. Any scanning of the brain can only come AFTER WE ALREADY KNOW WHAT FOCUS AND RELAXATION ARE

  • @FightClubStellingen There really is /watch?v=cSohjlYQI2A&list=UUAuUUnT6oDeKwE6v1NGQxug&index=126&feature=plpp_video

  • @nozerty there is ?

  • Really? Rewarding ADD kids when they're focused helps them as much as ritalin? What a load of shit. All the suggested applications of this were fucking tedious.

  • Content might be great, but I utterly detested her delivery. Don't put on a stupid little act, just fucking speak.

  • I feel like they haven't watched 2001: a space odyssey, because this technology reminds me way too much of the computer Hal, just without a voice response. This awesome "intra-active" technology is gonna end up saying "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that."

  • surveillance programs . beware !

  • be careful what you ask for .. they will use this to control and enforce on people ..

theses are enemies of the human race ...
