Interesting. This is a pretty traditional song. I think one of the top 2 singers ever. Also for my money among the best banjo and dobro ever. "New" bluegrass?
@rocknut75 I tend to disagree. The Seldom Scene had instrument solo's never heard in bluegrass as they classified themselves as "Progressive" bluegrass players. Traditional bluegrass of that day would have been men in hats and ties. Not polo shirts and jeans. (Or John's leopard striped pants). Do not get me wrong, I love the Seldom Scene, but true to the roots? Not quite. And I agree, much of today's music is way overproduced and far from the heritage.
Amazing....they called this "modern" bluegrass back then. The Scene was true to the roots, had the harmony, the drive, the raw edged sound that IS bluegrass. Today's "newgrass" is akin to Nashville country. Overpolished, overproduced, and far from soulful. Take it back to blending the blues with old time string. There's the recipe.....
