he probably meant 57 as in he went to a state twice...besides, 47+1+1+1 left to go to = 50..do the math.....so he meant to say 47 not 57.

I think he was counting the terrorties, like Guam as a state. He had to travel to them to get votes for the democratic primary.

OMG! You people are fucking stupid!!!!! He was making a joke about the divide that is/was in America at the time/currently. Specifically when Palin kept saying stupid things like, "The real America." IE, states divided completely. One part being the "real america".

Not only did he graduate from Harvard, he's one of 100 Senators, you know two Senators from each state and he doesn't know how many states there are in the Union. For a memember of the U.S. Congress not to know how many states there are, especially since he's 1 of 100 Senators, two from each state shows that Obama is ignorant and out of touch.

No reasonable person would conclude, from this statement, that Obama does not know how many states there are. He clearly meant 47; he clearly misspoke.
It would be atrocious if Obama didn't know how many states there are, which is why you choose to believe it.
There is a substantive debate to be had on Obama's policies, I promise. You don't have to focus on gaffs or invent arguments to find it.

He stopped and thought, and then after consideration said 57. I just think its funny, but also important when put up with some of his other gaffs like saying if we inflate our tires and get tune-ups we could save as much oil as we could pump.
