The Cows Return From Austria's High Pastures

It's a festive occasion when the cows return from the high Alpen pastures for the winter. The farmers decorate them, and theirselves, with fir branches and other colorful objects to give thanks for the good summer and healthy cows.

Hotel Tannahof said that next Saturday is the really big day. Close to a 1,000 cows will return from the Alps and walk to Schwartzenberg in one long forced "cow march." In Schwartzenberg, the farmers cull out their cows and take home. Next year, the same routine is repeated. Really enjoyable to watch.
