@AaronJEstes I think it would start repeating itself again when the pen and the four circles have the same phase difference as each other as they did at the start, and if you consider that there are four circles involved, that would probably be quite a long time before it starts repeating itself... I might be wrong though.
Considering this machine is based on mechanics and not momentum - would the pattern eventually repeat itself? A harmonograph creates its designs through the decay of its orbit through friction - yet this machine seems to work in a continuous manner and speed indefinitely.
How do you build one?
