How to clean your makeup so it is hygienic and safe to use! The type of alcohol is pharmaceutical alcohol to be bought at a pharmacy, do not use drinking alcohol like vodka, etc! The names will differ from country to country, go to your phramacy and ask them what type is best to use. You can use stronger than 70% as well, but it has to be AT LEAST 70% to kill germs effectively.

Do not use those household anti-bacterial cleaning wipes on makeup! Those may be fine to use for kitchen counters and toilets, but they often contain detergents and other things which can be poisonous when ingested.

Foundation is ok to use on others as long as it comes in a pump dispenser, just wipe the top spout of the pump down with alcohol. I highly recommend you do not swap or buy used lipgloss that comes with an applicator, it's just gross and you can't sanitize it. Same goes for lipgloss in pots. Actually, just don't buy/swap used lipglosses from people you don't know - you can still get herpes or other diseases.

(You can also spritz your brushes after washing with alcohol to kill any germs if you want to be extra careful)

  • sehr useful

  • So grateful I found a detailed video on how to sanitize lipsticks.

First time ever that I've purchased a lipstick and when I opened it it was another color on top, someone had mixed there lipstick on top, I was digusted (still am)!

I'm going to scrape away the top layer too. I'm no germ-a-phob but I don't enjoy buying something someone else is using. Typically drugstore lipsticks I buy sealed, this was just a quick run in & found it on the way out.

  • @SummerRain1994 all the alcohol evaporates in about a minute

  • I think this tutorial is great for your own make-up. But, with swaping make-up there is no way to 100% kill germs. The FDA and most doctors will tell you this is not safe. It's not just the top surface of the make-up that is because infected germs can actually seep down into the base of any makeup eyeshadows, lipstick, etc.

  • So, say you were to get pink eye from a specific eyeliner, could you use clean it with alcohol and then use it again or is it best to throw that kind of stuff away? I'm asking because I get allergic conjunctivitis a lot from other things that dont have to do with makeup, but I'm constantly told to throw away makeup afterwards anyway, which is really annoying when it happens frequently.

  • Does this method also work with paint pots?

  • I have heard if you freeze ur make up it also sanitizes to.
