  • Very nice, I am interested in this. Is the laser able to cut white paper? And where could I get the laser-parts? DVD-Recording-Drive or do I have to buy it? This would be bad because I guess this is illegal here in Germany -.-

  • @Wacken4EverAndEver

I answered the white paper question in your other comment.

This laser uses laser diode taken from DVD writer. I don't know about the Germany law, but I'm pretty sure that having a laser can not be illegal there. Many companies and machine shops and I'm pretty sure that also hobbiests uses CNC lasers to cut stuff. However, buying a laser like this by 15-year-old kid because he wants to play with it, may in fact be illegal :)

  • Thats awesome,

    1. What is the line thickness?

    2. What is the max thickness of the material?

    3. Going through your site I saw that you got the little CNC plotter pre-built, where can I get one?

  • @kurthewett

    1. I don't know. Probably something between 0.2-0.5mm.

    2. Doesn't matter - in this video I'm only engraving on the surface, not burning through the whole material thickness.

    3. I don't know. I'm oretty sure that such stuff can be bought at eBay, it may be quite expensive though. I got mine from junk at the university where I study.

  • Yes, you can. NEVER point a laser at a plane. EVER.

  • @Wacken4EverAndEver Nope, in the US they are illegal but not in the EU so you and I are fine!!! i have a 100mW laser also you can own a much bigger "strength" of laser in america if it is not portable

  • @c4r0hv Yeah excuse me I didn't see the other video was also by you ;) Yeah I think only ready-built laser-pointers over 1 or 5 mW are illegal... I will build a laserplotter with a pen-plotter and I think I will use a HD-DVD Bluray-Diode. Thanks for your help ;)

  • very good job, how do I make one? you can teach me? I can send a Leap or something?

    Thanks from Uruguay

  • Hello, I have a cnc machine and I want to put a laser from dvd burner instead of the dremel. I already got the laser and it burns, but how do I control the laser pulses through the software? What controller do you use?

  • Is the laser in the video being pulsed? If it is then how are you achiving it?

  • Wow, very nice man,

    How much is this?
