Leary, who teaches social work at Portland State University, traces the way that both overt and subtle forms of racism have damaged the collective African-American psyche—harm manifested through poor mental and physical health, family and relationship dysfunction, and self-destructive impulses.

  • I've been watching all of the vids to this post and I want to thank you for posting. I have learned a lot and am now understanding many things that happen to me and around me. I'm on vid #9 and will continue to watch until I've seen the whole series. Also, I will be sharing this series on my webpages.

  • @RandymTii Thank you so much

  • Jesus was not white and Christianity has is roots in the hyroglyphics of Egypt. Research the popular picture of Jesus. Is is a painting of a pope's son in the image of Jesus. It is not of Jesus himself. The people of the bible are colored. There are spiritual aspects in christianity if you take the time to read for yourself. Don't let someone tell it to you, but find it for yourself.

  • @Nasjen I think most people are aware that the picture of Jesus is not how Jesus actually looked

  • It took TOO long for the Dr to get to her speech and when she got there she was cut!

  • if you wanted to hear the rest of it all you had to do was click on part 2

  • If We Are To Be Free, The First Thing We Need To Do Is Give The Cave Beasts Their Religion Back And Take Up The Spiritual Systems Of Our Ancestors Again. That's The Forst Thing.

The Second Thing We Need To Do Is Give Them Back The Terms That They Have Given Us To Descibe Ourselves. African American, Negro, Colored And Black (Althought The Word Black Is A Metaphysicall Term To Describe Us) Is Not A Nation. What Country Do You Know By The Name Of African America, Negro, Colored Or Black? NONE!

  • I'm Sorry. I Cannot Listen to This. While She Peaks On This Subject I Think There Is Still Remnants Of The Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome That Dwells Within Her. First, The Church And The Belief That It Propagates Is Our Biggest Downfall. Any Brotha Or Sista Of The Conscious Community Knows This. Christanity Has Spiritually And Mentally Dumbed Us Down. It Is The Religion Of The Ones Who Enslaved Us Anyway.

  • I enjoyed listening to this Professor's perspective. Very interesting.

  • @chizwop and white people never suffered at the hands of white people, or you know all the black people who sold slaves to white people. Shrug... keep passing the blame along, maybe the next 100 generations can keep themselves down too...

actually I guess I suffer from PTSS also, my family was taken as slaves almost 1100 years ago. damn. fucking white people. Those damned Saxons are sure still fucking up my life.

  • @davidrobinson303 What is interesting is that your response in anger is also a symptom of the syndrome.
