On September 11, 2010, the glacial lake located between the edge of the Greenland Ice Cap and the adjacent rock suddenly emptied. This resulted in a burst of water in the melt water river running past the Russell Glacier near Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. As a result, large chunks of ice fell off the glacier.
