HI zooropa1967. I know exactly what you are talking about. After about 6 months of steady use, including dishwasher cleaning, I found that the silicon lid stretched and created a capillary action down the side of the cup. Not nice, and I assume your experience was that much worse, and caused by the same stretching issue.  But....what I found is that you can get two replacement lids for $7, so I fixed the problem easily. I posted that comment on the Daily Grommet site too.
