Maros, Charito, and Tui at the 2nd San Francisco International Bachata Festival/ Salsa Congress July 2010.

This was a dance routine meant for the Hawaii Bachata Tahitian Ensemble to perform as a group, but not everyone could make it to San Francisco due to job layoffs, high airfares, not being able to get off work, legal issues etc... The choreography was changed everytime one member cancels...until there was only one couple left. As the main director and choreographer, I wasn't sure I had time to really come up with a last minute choreography with the same passion, intensity, and exuberance effect as it is if dance with three couples versus one... I wanted to keep the story line I had in mind... I thought we'd test it out and hear audience response...

Tui and I first performed it the Grand Opening event at the Blue Ocean Thai Restaurant (with Latin promoter Nancy Ortiz) and to my relief, we had great feedbacks... We were asked to dance it twice (first on the 1st floor and then on the 2nd floor)... Our ending left the audience wondering and shouting (Hana hou) for more...

I was happy and relieved, but I also knew there were many things we still could do, add or change or both... Maros confirmed he will be coming with me to San Francisco and that's when I knew we had something better for our entrance, but our ending needed to be revisited... I knew we'd have trouble with our custome changing should we end with hula... I had already made the customes; I didn't have much time to make another whole set. Therefore, I kept it Tahitian Bachata dance routine... Hence, Bachata Tahitian or BachaTahitan, up to you how you want to call it ;)

We had major problem downloading the music to a CD; I had used a Movie Maker to put the music together, but I was unsuccessful downloading it to a playable CD, therefore, I resulted to saving it on my email and Ipod, everything else, but the CD. Much mahalo to Rodney for letting us use the computers at the registrar and especially Maros and Juan, who worked so hard until we had a playable CD (is playable even a word lol...)

A volcano of mahalo and aloha to everyone \OOO/

  • @TheScarletleilani Ohh nohh it's okay because we were laughing too as Maros, the guy with conch shell made mistake---he only learned to play the conch shell the week before that...If you watch it again, audience actually clapped when he tried it again and succeeded :)
