Charlie, the blue crown conure, is a parrot who is quite proud of himself and loves to play peek-a-boo. http://rachelsodyssey.blogspot.com

  • Uhm, no she is not retarded

Thats how you have to talk to birds to get them to talk.

  • You have to say something over and over. Males usually talk better than females but it can be done either way. Just try to talk to them every day when they are in a good mood. Make sure they can see you talking to them. It creates a bond and they want to talk to you. Soon they will try to say what you are saying to them. Good luck!

To expand on that, the reason is because birds have the average intelligence of a 5 year old child. You do indeed have to talk to them like that because it's like talking to a child. It excites them and makes them want to be around you, because you are a fun and interesting playmate. In terms of learning how to talk, if they really bond with you they'll start treating you as a flock mate and mimicking sounds and behavior is common flock behavior among birds.
