Ostad Mahmoud Zoufonoun, Pouran, Ostad Jalil Shahnaz - Song in Afshari

One of the groups that Ostad Mahmoud Zoufonoun directed at the National Radio of Iran was the Somai'ee ensemble.

As he still does today, Ostad Zoufonoun had a deep interest in preserving old and "lost" songs by notating, arranging and performing them.

In this recording, the Somai'ee Ensemble is performing one such song "revived" (that is, notated and arranged) for the ensemble by Ostad Zoufonoun entitled, "Sob Shod Baaz," in the avaz (sub-mode) of Afshari. Pouran is the singer.

One of the highlights of this performance is a very sensitive, technically flawless and lyrical solo on tar (about 4:15 into the song) by the inimitable master, Ostad Jalil Shahnaz.
