http://www.SeminariansForLife.org Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, continues his reflections on preaching on abortion. This video begins with Fr. Pavone saying that "One of the things we do when we give a homily on abortion is to fulfill St Paul's exhortation in Ephesians 5:11 where he says, "Have nothing to do with the fruitless works of darkness but rather expose them." We expose abortion, for example, as we have already discussed, by showing how unsafe it is, how unregulated the abortion industry is, and how much harm it does to women. We also expose it by using one of the phrases that by research has proven to be one of the most effective for people, and that is that "abortion stops a beating heart.""
In order to "counteract the notion that the choice has no effect except to solve a problem and to answer the question that so often remains unanswered "the choice of what?", Fr. Pavone will include the following in his homily: "Here is the choice, that today in America 4000 children are living and growing in their mothers' wombs, their hearts are beating, and tomorrow they are scheduled to be killed. Tomorrow those hearts won't be beating anymore. Tomorrow they will be thrown away with the medical waste."
Fr. Pavone finishes by talking about the "tone" that we should use, "We are not being harsh, we're not yelling at people; we're being gentle, and we're being compassionate, but at the same time we are being clear; we're exposing the evil for what it is. We are helping our people pastorally to get out of the fog that is created by a movement that talks about choice but never admits what that choice is. Let's expose the works of darkness."
