@gabeyld Another thing you should consider is if he said what you said he said, you really got under his skin, and that's a victory for you because he lost control, not you.
@gabeyld I think the "[a]ny act" part makes clear that words alone aren't sufficient. As for his having the "law on his side" by virtue of being "old and respectable," that would be a problem if he denied what you said. At this level of analysis, we assume everyone's telling the same story. Your perceived disadvantage in a factual dispute resolution (power disparity) probably won't cancel the requirement that he actually has to do something; e.g., lunge at you, put his hands up, etc.
The Iowa Code defines assault as: "Any act which is intended to place another in fear of immediate physical contact which will be painful, injurious, insulting, or offensive, coupled with the apparent ability to execute the act." (along with a couple of other possibilities)
Considering that the guy is larger than me, and also almost inherently has the law on his side by virtue of being "old and respectable" as it were, as opposed to my young, uneducated self...
@gabeyld Not sticking up for the douchebag but I'm not sure you're right on the law. The prevailing view is that words alone don't constitute assault; assault requires a threatening gesture or some overt act toward carrying the threat into execution, combined with apparent present ability to execute the threat.
The guy in the green sweater with the red shirt underneath threatened to grab me and my friend by the throat. According to Iowa law, this is a serious misdemeanor assault, meaning he could go to jail for it, if I were inclined to get him charged with it. If anyone recognizes or knows him, please tell him to stop threatening people for disagreeing with his bigoted views.
Turning up the Christmas music; that's funny. Reminds me of the underground world in A Boy and His Dog, and the incessant playing of Sousa's Military March.

Either way, the dude's a dick, and I hope that a few more people are aware of that because of my comment.

@SergeantTubefox
I thought he looked familiar... He's been giving blow jobs in the bathroom at the law library for at least two years.

Hey, whose that one ignorant redneck dipshit in the mid-left in the green sweater with the red shirt underneath? I boned him in a bathroom one time.
