He said during the video that he was using the demonstrator gun because he was at the range, and wanted everyone around him to know that he wasn't waving around a real firearm. Many police agencies will not issue an actual firearm until the cadet has proven they can be trusted with a real firearm in their holster. For a person who has never used a holster there is the possibility for dropping the gun or injury, so these are good teaching devices.

Marines taught me to always train like you would fight. You need to also get the feel and weight of an actual gun to be proficient at it. Training with a replica is a waste of time in my opinion. Clear your damn weapon before practicing and theres nothing unsafe about it. Replicas are for school girls
