Things changed so quickly in the 1960'sa that the very day this swingin' documentary on the "Mod Generation" was finished, it was already hilariously outdated. Blissfully oblivious to the hippie revolution lurking right around the corner, Mondo Mod instead zeros in on the Hollywood youth scene, "the Neon Neverland that the Mod Set calls home," and creates a teenage time capsule of all things 1966...right before the whole decade went crazy overnight. From the title song, "It's a Mod, Mod World" by THE GRETSCHMEN, to a drug den of stripping dopes, Mondo Mod careens around L.A. like an out of control dervish, fueled only by the hyperbole of narrator HUMBLE HARVE, "Los Angeles' #1 Radio Personality" and the photography of LASZLO KOVACS and VILMOS ZSIGMOND (who both started with such humble quickies before graduating to Ghostbusters and Close Encounters of the Third Kind respectively).

  • I love Mondo Mod. I have a copy of this documentary on DVD. I watch this and The Hippie Revolt every Friday night. I've fallen in love with the blonde that's dancing around wearing the bra, black skirt and go-go boots. I wonder where she is now. I think she's really hot.

I found out about this documentary on another documentary called GRASS. I love the bonus alternate footage from Mondo Mod called "Pot Party Playgirls."

    MONDO MOD!!!

  • @studmufinn Another telling aspect are actors and actresses and Hollywood producers/directors possibly older than 25 trying to get 'hip' with the kids and having their own exclusive club but by doing so they actually missed out on what was happening out in the streets.

  • @studmufinn 'The major problem of the film is that it failed to do one single interview from a young person's perspective.' You are correct.

  • if only this came out in 64 or 65, then it wouldn't have been so outdated lol

  • I'm a sucker for anything from the 1960's that has bouffants, beehives, thick eyeliner and go-go dancing.

Even my wife is sporting a bouffant by request.

  • This film is only interesting to watch on a nostalgia basis.

The major problem of the film is that it failed to do one single interview from a young persons perspective.

Had the film makers just done some man on the street interviews interviewing teens and young adults I bet the film would have been so much better.

By the time the film was released it was outdated

I do love seeing the scenes of all the young people on the Sunset strip, I just wished they took the time to interview them.

  • yep, groovy

  • I love this--and the fact that Laszlo and Vilmos are billed as "Leslie" and "William"!
