  • Hi there, what a great videa fascinating.

What advice can you give me on crushing my own stones?

I have an amatuer geologists crystal collection - is it just as simple as putting them in a bag and crushing with a hammer, removing the various grades as I go?

  • @redcloak73 I would suggest you go to our website and purchase some stones from us, however if you would like to do it yourself here are a few tips. A bag will become unusable after 2 minutes of bashing. Get a small steel bar and a steel Container. A Mortar & Pessel in steell. Use sieves of different sizes to separate the stones into different sizes. You will need 2mm size and separately some powder for filling holes. Good Luck

  • Do you have any suggestions as to how you would vary the process if the groove is on the outside of a cylinder as opposed to being horizontal where it can all be placed at once? Can you just work your way around the periphery?

  • @ronjkaplan I have used it with wedding rings with Stone. The difference is to add a small piece of stone then the glue. It will set in seconds and you are able to rotate the item on the lathe and do the next section

  • have you done this process with mother of pearl?even if it was in small pieces like the stone i bet it would make a really nice looking piece. really liked your video too

  • @tappakeggaday1 The mother of pearl is really best done using a resin where the sheen of the shell can be seen. It doesnt come through it you crush and sand. With the stone the surface you see is actually a slice through the stone.
