@Vastblackwaters Mate, he dedicated the whole album to Buddy Holly. Look on the back of the American Pie album, it says dedicated to Buddy Holly. He even mentions his widowed bride. When i went to see Don recently in Newcastle, he opened with two Buddy Holly songs. The mans a Buddy Holly fanatic, which was the catalyst for this song. If you cant see that, than your not a full shilling.

This song is Don reading head lines from the news paper. The day the music died is a Orwellian fiction/fact he seems to draw on its not about Buddy Holly. "the church bells all were broken" He seems to be imagining music literally dieing. People stretch this to make it fit to history but i just doesn't fit anything too a tee. The Jester is Bob Dylan??? As some say. No way would Dylan ever fit that bill. Mick Satan? Nice video but a real stretch.

can some1 tell me why is Mick Jagger Satan???please

It was also about censorship and the red scare during the McCarthy era, and the relationship between Rock-N-Roll as an instrument of Satan.

Good, but I think you took each and every word a bit too literally.
For instance, when he says "bye bye miss american pie", you don't need to portray a person saving goodbye. We know what he means by that. Perhaps you could have told us what "american pie" means though.
There is never only one meaning to a song...
