HU Queer Press Chapel Response from Harding University President Dr. Burks

Dr. Burks, the president of Harding University, responds in chapel (3/3/2011) to the ongoing controversy over the underground State of the Gay zine published by HU Queer Press. In the zine, students tell heartbreaking stories about living as LGBTQ members of a conservative Christian environment, Burks defends the University's decision to censor the website by blocking access on campus and reiterates the conservative Christian view that homosexuality is sinful. I remember back in the 80's if they caught any one having Heterosexual sex out side of marriage , they would kick them out . Where as if they caught any Gay sex going on , they would let them stay if they would receive counseling . I thought that was weird.

I attended Harding a very long time ago, and boy, the beans I could spill on what was going on there, including the activities of a certain faculty member! But, loose lips sink ships. (I can't believe David Burks is still there...........and alive!)

@steveej202 ...(cont'd from below) and He (God) focuses on two adults (be they heterosexuals or homosexuals) who truly love one another and have sex.....you're telling me this is such a terrible, sinful thing in His eyes? That's what will lead to death and destruction of the soul? Because two people care about each other and decide to engage in sex, THAT is such an atrocity in God's eyes? Has it ever occurred to you that maybe this is a "fear induced" view of God that can only be man made?

@steveej202 I'm sure the all powerful, all knowing, all seeing god is looking down on the world, seeing all these horrors such as child molestation, the beating, raping and oppression of women, ruthless dictators who kill, wound, torture and imprison their own people, the countless murders of innocent people (mostly women and children) because of our ridiculous wars , the unbelievable display of greed, corruption and theft by banks and the financial world...(cont. above)

@DB Cooper Yes, LOL. Hey, that would be great if you could update the bible, since technically it was written during the bronze age (not sure if we still go by those standards today). You might want to add in something about condemning slavery, stopping the oppression of women, and child molestation since it doesn't seem to cover any of these "hot button" topics. Just a thought.

Correct when Jesus spoke of "fornication" in Ma chap 19 he meant all non-natural sex as well as sexual relations between some other than husband and wife.

First off. Everything the President said about all forms of sexual behavior outside of the marriage state is sin is true. The Bible has and will always be clear on this subject. Just because socieity want to change the view on this don't change the fact. Any student who know how the school is should make that decision before they decide to attend. If you are a member of the LGBTQ lifestyle why would you want to attend a college that you know don't agree with your views?
