Immersion R&D (http://www.immersion.fr ) developed its own multitouch interactive cubic surface. The five surfaces of the cube support multitouch interaction. In this video, the interaction with the tactile cube are interpeted to navigate in the google earth application. Obviously we can imagine many application with many interpretation of the 5 multitouch faces.

As cool as this is, in an artsy sense, where's the advantage? I see "immersion" which indicates commercial guys are behind it. You know, guys, this is potentially huge. Think big, and build a reference application that is THE killer application and demo that. Right now I see 'cute' not earth-shattering huge.
What if you mapped the cube onto a soft-body in 3D space. Have three modes of interaction; carve, pile, and smooth. Now you've got an effective 3D modelling application.
