  • Dear Prof. Macfarlane, how wonderful it is that you have put this whole series of videos on Anthropology, Social, Political and Global. Your lectures on the origins of the modern world has been most stimulating. In a way, it is the most fundamental part of any education, how exactly our world came to be. After all the formal work in mathematics, systems and AI, it is uncanny how your lectures had a "completing" effect on me. Thank you for your efforts, how could one ever compensate you for this!

  • @necessarily

Thanks so much - it is comments like this which make it all worthwhile... Alan

  • Great vid, shows the beginnings of proper studies of other cultures through the lens of European science and reason.

  • Pritchard is like margaret mead just more qualied and fantastic

  • @palotin07 "understand another culture on its own terms" another way of exalting moral and cultural relativism. The hallmark of the kind of cowardice and weakness that infused the upper classes of England and led to it's downfall. The decent into utter stupidity that makes a people forget what got them where they are. To the worthless offspring of the spoiled classes a mud hut is as big an accomplishment as a jet engine or computer, but only to those so spoiled they are dead inside.
